* hu - a word, very old and archaic (only used by the older population over the age of 60, and still quite rarely) which survives in mainstream Hungarian as names for people, places, etc. It means litter (as in a litter of puppies, kittens, etc.) but also as in a "litter" of children. Could technically even be used as a word for a young boy, much like fiú, but definitely not as commonly. Relation poss. ? with the Proto-Uralic reconstructed word *pojka. Also demonstrates an obvious relationship with the modern Finnish word, poika (look at it's definitions, which are almost exactly the same!). Heard that it once was a mainstream word long ago (19th c. and earlier)

** personal opinion, but I think that fiú was a loanword from Romanian (notice how the Romanian fiu has the same def. as it), which in turn was a loanword from Latin filius. Just an observation.
