Turkish[edit]

Etymology 1[edit]

From Old Turkic koñ, from Proto-Turkic; cognate with Azeri qoyun, Turkmen goýun, Kazakh қой, Uzbek qo'y. Pedersen derived from Old Armenian խոյ (xoy), but in Doerfer's opinion this is phonetically impossible. Ačaṙyan too regards the resemblance to Old Armenian խոյ (xoy) accidental.
