SANFORD -- An alternate juror in the George Zimmerman murder trial has been dismissed for reasons "completely unrelated to this case," Seminole Circuit Judge Debra Nelson announced Wednesday as the third day of testimony began in the second-degree murder case.
The six-person jury plus three alternates is continuing to hear the case in a Sanford courtroom.
The judge also ruled that she will allow jurors to hear about previous 911 calls Zimmerman made to police to report something or someone suspicious in his gated Sanford neighborhood. She had listened to arguments on that issue Tuesday.
Trayvon, a Miami Gardens teen, was killed in February 2012 during a scuffle with Zimmerman in the gated Sanford community. Zimmerman has said he shot the 17-year-old in self-defense.
