Schtum originates as German for silence. It is used as British slang as in "keep schtum" or stum, stoom,....but, since it is an absolute, just as silence is an absolute, it cannot be very, most, etc.

I have noted many entries in Wiktionary that create verb forms and plurals out of nowhere. See fish (with the plural being shown as fishes, which is just nonsense) Pmayall

: I will happily grant you that comparatives for absolutes, such as "silenter" or "more silent", sound a bit funny. However, the plurals you mention might well be valid -- "waters" is a valid word, as indeed is "fishes". I've generally heard the distinction between "fish (pl)" and "fishes" being that "fish (pl)" means more than one of a particular kind of fish, or more than one fish when kind does not matter, whereas "fishes" means more than one kind of fish. C.f. google:"a+lot+of+fish" vs. google:"fishes+of+the+ocean". -- Eiríkr Útlendi | <small style="position: relative; top: -3px;">Tala við mig</small> 18:05, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

::Striking, since we don't have any verb forms of schtum, including schtum itself. Mglovesfun (talk) 18:09, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
